Gaana- most popular music streaming app in India.

Gaana is the most popular music streaming app in India that was launched in April 2010 by Times Internet.

It has a collection of 45 million + songs across different languages and genres.

Gaana is a freemium service where you can stream music and listen to podcasts for free with ads. For HD quality, ad-free streaming, and downloading songs for offline listening, you need Gaana Plus subscription which costs Rs. 399/year.

Gaana has introduced HotShots, after the Indian Government banned Tik-Tok. So, I don’t have to tell you what it is. lol.

Gaana Plus automatically download your most played songs for offline listening.

Spotify- World’s most popular music streaming app.

Spotify is a Swedish based Music Streaming app launched in India in Feb 2019. It is the most popular music streaming app in the world with a collection of over 50 million songs.

Spotify is also a freemium service where you can stream music and listen to podcasts for free with ads. Premium subscription gives you ad-free music, unlimited skips, offline listening, and extreme audio quality. And it has a variety of subscription plans like Premium Individual, Premium Duo, Premium Family, and Premium Student.

Premium Individual plan costs you Rs. 119/month and Rs. 1189/year.

JioSaavn

JioSaavn.

Saavn, one of the oldest music streaming app was founded in 2006. In March 2018, Reliance Industries Ltd acquired a majority stake in Saavn and renamed it to JioSaavn.

JioSaavn has a collection of over 55 million songs across different languages and genres and it is free for streaming with ads. For high quality, ad-free streaming and downloading you need JioSaavn Pro subscription that costs Rs. 399/year or Rs. 99/month.

YouTube Music- Music streaming app from YouTube

The Google-owned video streaming service, YouTube, launched it’s music app, YouTube Music, in India in March 2019 and it gained popularity in a quick time. 

The biggest plus point of YouTube Music is it has video and audio playback options in the same app. All the videos uploaded on YouTube are available as music on YouTube Music. But the main drawback of it is, no background streaming on a free plan.

Currently, the Premium plan costs you Rs. 99/month.

Amazon Music

Amazon Music was launched in India in Feb 2018. It comes bundled with Amazon Prime subscription (which includes Free fast delivery of items from Amazon store, Early access to deals, Prime Video and Prime Music) that costs you Rs. 129/month or Rs. 999/year.

Amazon Music has a collection of 60 million + songs in different languages and genres.

Amazon’s own voice assistant, Alexa comes integrated with the app for hands-free music streaming.

But you can only use it if you have an Amazon Prime subscription. It doesn’t have the option of free music streaming with ads.

Wynk Music- Free music streaming app for Airtel subscribers.

Wynk is a music streaming app from Airtel. It has 6 million + songs and compared to other apps on the list, that is a quite small number but you will find all the popular Indian as well as international artists in the app.

Wynk Music costs you Rs. 49/month or Rs. 349/year if you are a non-Airtel subscriber. And those are the cheapest subscription plans among all the apps on the list.

And if you are an Airtel subscriber, then you get free unlimited streams(HD quality), downloads, and Hellotunes.

Unfortunately, Wynk Music doesn’t work on Android Auto.

Choosing the right app:

All the above-mentioned apps are great for streaming music. You just have to choose whichever suits your need. Like, Spotify is a great option if you listen to lots of podcasts as it has a huge collection. Gaana and JioSaavn have a huge collection of regional songs. If you want video streaming along with music then there is YouTube Music. If you have an Amazon Prime membership then you get Amazon Music for free and if you are an Airtel customer then you get Wynk Music for free.
